The Economic and Energy Affairs Unit

The Economic and Energy Affairs Unit provides independent research, advisory, coordination and project management support to the Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority on matters related to domestic and international economic and energy policy.

The team employs a multi-disciplinary and data-driven approach to analyze trends, provide insights, formulate policies and recommend strategies for tackling complex economic and energy challenges. The Unit’s work is generally geared toward a long-term horizon, consistent with its core responsibility of supporting sound decision-making in the energy sector and broader economy to secure economic and energy security, as well as intergenerational prosperity for the UAE.

To meet its objectives, team members collaborate with numerous other government agencies, including regulatory bodies, as well as with private sector entities and experts from academia and industry.

Responsibilities of the Economic and Energy Affairs Unit include:

  • Analyzing economic and energy developments, identifying trends and modelling potential scenarios to inform the selection of optimal government responses to those trends
  • Understanding the potential impact of proposed domestic and international policy measures or legislation to assess their long-term implications, particularly on the UAE
  • Reviewing and contributing to new UAE economic and energy policies and initiatives
  • Monitoring areas of potential technological disruption of traditional economic and energy sectors in the UAE and abroad
  • Identifying systemic issues and barriers to achieving sustainable growth and advising on strategies to address these issues
